We’ve learned through our work with MFIs that nothing is more effective at helping them better understand the benefits, uses, and challenges of the PPI than meeting with their peers in region/country. We’ve seen peer learning groups gather in Chiapas, Manila, and now in Bangalore.

The first India PPI Peer Learning workshop gathered 18 participants from three major microfinance networks and nine Indian MFIs. They came to Bangalore to discuss best PPI practices and to identify future opportunities to meet and collaborate on social performance efforts. The networks were:

Following the PPI Data Analysis training, Mary Jo Kochendorfer and Cris Lomboy joined other discussion leaders at a Social Investing Workshop. Their panel, Opportunities and Challenges in Social Investment, focused on shared experiences among MFIs and technical assistance providers in promoting social performance. The panel examined the role of social investment as an incentive for increasing social performance activities among organizations.

When you read about organizations that help the poor, do you wonder how they know they are making a difference? We’re seeing positive results in Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Fonkoze, the largest microfinance institution (MFI) in Haiti, is demonstrating that their programs help clients move out of poverty.

For Fonkoze, the mission is clear: target the poor and ultra-poor, mainly women in rural areas, and provide services to meet their special needs.
